With the decreasing amount of lithium in mines and the increasing price, how are we going to be able to support renewables hitting the grid? Well we are in luck because thousands of scientist are working around the clock to come up with new types of batteries.

Everyday we are constantly being told that solar and wind are going to be the power sources of the future, but as of 2017 solar and wind only generated about 9% or 372 TWH (Terawatt-hours or 1,000,000 KWH) of the electric in the USA. Why is this, well it’s partly because of a fundamental problem with renewable energy. Another reason is that solar panels, and wind farms cost a lot of green.
What’s the biggest problem with solar and wind energy? The problem is their outputs vary a lot throughout the day. This can wreak havoc throughout the power grid. How are we going to be able to solve this? One solution is batteries. Most things we use nowadays use batteries. But what’s the history of batteries and what’s the future of batteries. This is part one of the batteries series.
